Setting Up Your Comcast Connection
Starting Your Computer
Pick a spot for your computer with a flat surface work area, adequate lighting,
access to an electric outlet, and near where the Comcast cable outlet will be placed
for the Internet connection. We strongly recommend that your computer be placed
in a room that is readily accessible for parent/guardian monitoring and supervision
– the family room, kitchen, or other indoors common area may be appropriate. However,
the computer should be located away from heat, food and liquids, so should not be
directly in front of a window (heat) or near a water source such as a sink, water
heater, air conditioning unit, etc. It should also not be placed near an electrical
appliance such as a heater because of electromagnetic interference.
It is strongly recommended that the computer not be placed in the
student’s bedroom.
Installing your computer in an enclosed space can restrict the airflow and impact
your computer's performance, causing it to overheat. Follow the guidelines below
when installing your computer in an enclosed space:
NOTICE:
The room ambient temperature needs to be a consideration when installing
your computer in an enclosed space. For example, if the ambient room temperature
is at 77° F, you only have 9° to 18° F temperature margin before your reach your
computer's maximum operating temperature. Therefore:
• Leave a 4 inch minimum clearance on all vented sides of the computer
to permit the airflow proper ventilation.
• If you are installing in an enclosure that has doors, the doors need to be of
a type that allows at least 30% airflow through enclosure (front and back).

• If your computer is installed in a corner on a desk or under a desk, leave
at least 2 inches clearance at the back of the computer to the wall
to permit the airflow required for proper ventilation.

Do not install your computer in an enclosure that does not allow airflow. Restricting
the airflow will impact the computer's performance, possibly causing it to overheat
and fail.
